Jet lag is real!! I am in Durban, South Africa. It helps to have the view and the sounds of the ocean from your hotel room window! When I peered out of the room my first sight was of a 100 person yoga class on the beach! There is an iron man competition today; and an international film festival that will be ongoing for the next week. The hotel has 3 towers of rooms, restaurants, pools, and work-out rooms. Each room is practically designed. I brought a couple of all cotton items I wanted to iron for my school visits and ordered an iron and ironing board immediately. Little did I know that they would call and ask for it back! It was too late to eat at one of the hotel restaurants last night so we ordered room service. The food is very inexpensive. I got a large seafood basket for a little less than $6. We ate in the hotel restaurant where there was an elaborate buffet. I kept my meal to fruit and coffee. Traditional fruits were served that I find in the states with the exception of fresh apricots, and many items I could not identify. My attempts to inquire were not answered because the wait staff was very busy! There were omelet stations, meat stations, etc. Lamb is plentiful along with beef bacon. Durban has the largest Indian population second only to India. After breakfast we were off to our orientation meeting. We were given name tags with handmade beaded chains! Absolutely beautiful! We met around a roof top pool in the hotel tower next to our building. The view of the Indian Ocean was magical. It's surreal to think I am in South Africa having a meeting while I watch the ebb and flow of the Indian Ocean! We spoke at length to the lifeguard attempting to learn some basic phrases in Zulu. He was kind and patient. Somehow a southern accent is noticeable when attempting to speak Zulu! The trip to the Victoria Market is postponed until tomorrow; therefore, we took a bus tour of Durban and walked the grounds of the Botanical Garden. Upon my return I ran to dip my feet in the Indian Ocean before the sun went down! The sun rises at 7am; and sets promptly at 6pm! Tonight we will dine at a hotel restaurant, "L'Engali" and get to bed early. Breakfast is being served at 6:30am, and we leave for our 1st school tour at 6:45am. Until tomorrow....I hope everyone had a fabulous Father's Day!

We enjoyed reading your posts! We are intrigued by the comment you made about the variety of fruits. Have you learned more about what they are, yet?
