Hi everyone! I hope you have been following my Tweets! They truly tell the story of my journey! I awakened early Friday morning (3am) and was out the door quickly. Bags packed and ready to go! I was feeling overwhelmed and found myself walking in a circle hoping I didn't forget anything I would need. The flight did not provide wi-fi, but it did have a phone charger. Yea! I watched a couple of movies, ate food, and tried to sleep. The seats were tight in international coach (lol), but my traveling buddy and I persevered. Awkward moment: I found myself wondering if she'd mind if I laid my head on her shoulder so I could sleep better?! Didn't do it! : ) The flight was packed...not one spare seat. There were 2 babies on the flight; and it was amazing how quiet they were for their 17 hour journey. That's the number of hrs on the plane - total traveling time was 34 hrs. One family of 3 traveling had 1 deaf parent, and one hearing impaired parent. They had 3 children - an infant, a toddler, and one school age. They all "signed" as their means of communication. The toddler and school age child, however, did little talking. They could hear and speak - but they did not find it necessary to fill each moment with words. Makes you think about how much talking we do that may or may not be necessary. My heart was full when we landed in Dakar for fuel! I knew then that I was on the continent of Africa. As I peered out of the breezeway as the crew changed a 'crew' member engaged in conversation with a member of my NC Global group, Danielle. Danielle is an IB high school french teacher and the gentleman spoke French and English. I am finding it common that most citizens speak a minimum of 4 languages. I speak....uhhh...one! Definitely a point to ponder! One last comment - there is color everywhere! Buildings....planes....clothing.....etc! I love it!
